Beginning of the Diocesan Phase of the Beatification Process for the Servant of God, Fr. Ignacio Larrañaga
On October 6, 2026, the Archdiocese of Guadalajara officially announced the beginning of the cause for the beatification and canonization of Fr. Ignacio Larrañaga, our beloved Founder, who can now be called Servant of God.
This means that only after the due process, which may take several years, will the tribunal review the merits to advance to the next stage.
In its statement, the Archdiocese added that he was a Capuchin priest who died in Guadalajara, Jalisco, in 2013, and was recognized for his extensive evangelizing work through the Encounters Experience of God and the Prayer and Life Workshops (PLW), as well as his numerous writings.
As part of the procedural act, the Diocesan Postulator of the Cause, Mons. Óscar Sánchez Barba, formally delivered the list of 50 witnesses from 25 dioceses in 7 countries, who will be called to provide information about the life, virtues, and reputation for holiness of Friar Ignatius.
The following individuals presided over this important and momentous event:
Friar Juan Manuel Muñoz Curiel, OFM, Auxiliary Bishop of Guadalajara, presiding on behalf of Cardinal Francisco Robles Ortega.
Father Miguel Ángel Rodríguez Díaz, Judge Delegate of the Cause. Juan Manuel Álvarez Villalobos, Notary Public. Father Wilfrido Vázquez García, Promoter of Justice. Mons. Óscar Sánchez Barba, Diocesan Postulator of the Cause. María Lorena Rodríguez Mediadilla, International Coordinator of the Prayer and Life Workshops. Brother Sergio Daniel Colima Jiménez, representing the Capuchin Fathers (OFM Cap.).
The closing remarks of Bishop Juan Manuel Muñoz Curiel, Auxiliary Bishop of Guadalajara, were a beautiful portrait of the life and work of the Servant of God, Father Ignacio Larrañaga, which we will share with you soon.
We can only express our deepest gratitude to God for the gift of this day.
