Faith, a Vital Adhesion

If it is true that the act of faith involves the whole person (feelings, thoughts, and behavior), it is nevertheless an act of the will because it deals with a real “holding fast.” It is a vital adhesion. In obvious things the will does not intervene at all. The light of this noon is clearly light, and the discussion is over. Mainly, we repeat, it is the decision and the conviction that prepare and justify giving in.

Well, with this dedication the believer manages to cross the entire night of faith in one fell swoop and makes up for that radical inability of our intelligence to intellectually “dominate” God. The believer who surrenders jumps over mental processes, over problems about formulas and content... and "reaches" God, and, thus, the Lord is transformed into certainty.

The security that reasoning could not give us will be given to us by Him who is the Content of faith, provided that it has been accepted through a “gracious” and unconditional surrender.
