Transfiguration

Jesus sensitive soul would have been swept over and over again, like a wave sweeping over a beach, by the presence of the Without-Name, in a wrenching closeness, being able to say with the psalmist:

“All your waves and breakers

have rolled over me” (Ps 41/42)

This is what happened to allow me to conjecture in the event of Transfiguration. In his narrative, Luke says, “As he was praying, the aspect of his face was changed...” (Lk 9:29). We may conclude, from the context of the story, that the intensity, the possessiveness, and the concentration of Jesus’ spirit was such that, with the strength of spiritual energies, physical laws were broken, producing a change ó how, we don’t know ó in the appearance of Jesus, the same as in the case of Moses at another time. In a word, Jesus was “made” a living reflection of God, radiating the brightness of God in His robes, in His face, in His body.

In those encounters, He was experiencing that the Admirable is the only Good on whom it is worth betting everything. If you knew how much God the Great Treasure is, you would sell your land and your houses, abandon your profession in order to “possess” that Treasure (Mt 13:44).

The birds have their nests and the foxes their lairs in which to sleep. The Son of Man does not know what He will eat tomorrow or where He will sleep the day after tomorrow. He has renounced all security and has depended on God as His only Refuge and Safety (Mt 8:20).
