Who Are You and Who Am I?
Departure, wonder, fascination, astonishment, awe.
A contradictory impression. Who are You and who am I?
It is a question, it is an answer, it is admiration,
It is affirmation; to adore, to accept humbly
and deeply that the Lord is Most High
and that Brother is small; to adore not to resist,
but to accept everything in wonder and
gratitude, starting with one’s own smallness;
to adore, to kneel at the feet of creation to wash
feet, bind wounds, place little creatures in
a safe place, serve at the table, revere the
insignificant, despise nothing, be a minimum brother
among the little brothers of creation; to adore,
to gladly accept that the Present One is
the Distant One, and that He who is the essence
of my existence is at the same time the Other Shore:
to remain still, silent, rapt to love.
